Göcek has long been a desirable destination for both Turkish and foreign yachtsmen, as well as a favorite stopover for jet-setters and celebrities alike. It's not just world-class yachting that makes Göcek a special place; it is the way the culture and natural surroundings blend in such a serene way. Strict development laws ensure that this very unique setting is protected; and since there is no oversupply of hotels, it is never crowded; the majority of visitors are usually sophisticated travellers.

 

This is an incredibly beautiful part of Turkey. Even though you are in Asia it feels like Europe. The people are wonderful - very friendly, very humorous and extremely family oriented. There are pine-clad mountains plunging down towards the sea, an archipelago of islands just off Göcek called Skopia Limani which is rather like the British Virgin Islands - stunning. Göcek boasts excellent restaurants, and the closer you get to the waterfront the cooler they become. Laid-back cafés and tasteful bars line the water's edge – interspersed with twinkling lights and palm trees -  offering exceptionally fine dining from freshly caught fish cooked on an open fire, through to traditional mezzes and succulent kebabs. 

 

Göcek is a haven for the international yachting community and is famous worldwide for some of the best sailing waters in the entire Mediterranean. Getting out onto the water is a must-do for anyone visiting the area, and you can take a water taxi from the harbour to visit the myriad of small islands with fine white sand and wonderful sea-swimming.  Nothing beats the incredible views back into the port as you sail in or out of the harbour.

 

For those who prefer dry land, the area is ideally positioned for exploring further afield, with bustling Fethiye and its' astonishing markets in one direction, while the Carian cliff tombs and abeautiful beaches of the Dalyan Delta lie in the other direction. Travel from Göcek to the fascinating ruins of the old Greek settlement at Kayaköy, as well as the ancient sites of Tlos, Pinara, Letoon and Xanthos and natural wonders such as Sakklient Gorge.

 

There is a private beach which belongs to D-Marin which can be used by paying a daily rate or taking out a seasonal membership. Inlice Beach is just outside Göcek and can be reached with a 5 minute drive. The main island beach is reachable by water taxi from the harbour. Other beaches are easily accessible by car or taxi. Amongst these is Sarıgerme, a long sandy beach. Beyond Sarıgerme is the protected beach of Iztuzu in the Dalyan Delta. In the opposite direction, the famous beach at Ölüdeniz is only a 40 minute drive away.

 

Göcek has a well-maintained, 24-hour health center, with five doctors and three pharmacies in the town. There are two large and several smaller grocery shops, as well as two butchers.

Life in Göcek continues much as it has done for centuries. The phrase used by villagers to describe guests and foreigners is, “guests of God”.

 

In winter Göcek's average maximum temperature is 14°C (57°F). In the summer the average maximum is 38°C (100°F), and the weather is sunny over 300 days per year. Highs of over 40°C (104°F) are reached at times.
